Lighting is like art; both use colors and techniques to create a magical backdrop that can tell a story and create desired ambience.
To transform the energy of a room throughout the evening, lighting that changes colors is key. An elegant palette of reds and bright golds gives energy to the room, while a serene "in-between-courses" palette of blues and plums provides a soothing, comfortable atmosphere.
The use of honey and amber tones are flattering, while warm colors highlight decor beautifully. Pink can create an atmosphere of warmth and comfort. To accentuate centerpieces and food displays one may use pink spotting to tightly focus light and make decorative touches shine. A "Gobo" light can be employed to wash the walls with a favorite poem logo or interesting pattern.
However lighting is used, it is an essential part of decor and offers the most value when transforming a space.

Great post- lighting IS art- it's got me rethinking my centerpieces ;)
