On December 31, 2009 Kate Krems, 23, and Rick Lourenco, 25, rang in the New Year in a very special way--by getting married! The bride, a Newton, MA native, and the groom, originally from Washington, D.C., partied the night away at the Ritz Carlton on Boston Common after a romantic candle-lit ceremony.

For Kate and Rick, their wedding was a truly unique celebration. The couple blended both Jewish and Catholic traditions for the ceremony and chose to have parts spoken in English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Hebrew. Friends and family joined the newlyweds from all corners of the world, including Lisbon, Beijing, and London, and many came from different parts of the U.S.

Kate and Rick were determined to show their guests a good time, and their James Bond-themed reception provided the right mix of fun and fancy. "Tables were named after Bond movies," Kate says. "And Rick changed into a white dinner coat for the reception." Kate went for a classic look in an ivory satin Judd Waddell gown while her bridesmaids wore Aria dresses in indigo satin. The groomsmen looked sharp and stylish in black tuxes with cummerbunds to match the bridesmaids' dresses. In lieu of a guest book, they had people sign a Bond poster that they plan to hang in their house.

Swapping the guest book for a poster wasn't the only twist of the night. Instead of cutting the cake, Kate and Rick cut the steak. "It's our favorite food, so we had [the servers] bring out our entrees first, the band leader announced it, and we even had a drum roll. It was fun and different, and people loved it." Kate explains, giving Rock credit for the idea. For dessert, cupcakes decorated with "L's" were butler-passed and set up on a buffet table at midnight.

The evening made Kate's dreams of a fairytale wedding come true. From cherishing their first dance to "Lucky" by Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat to having their guests gush about what a fabulous time they were having, Kate and Rick say it's impossible to choose just one favorite memory of the night. "The wedding was exactly what we wanted--a fun, special, amazing party where we could get everyone we love together and celebrate the fact that Rick and I are going to be together forever," Kate says. We're sure it made for a very happy New Year.
