I've fallen in love... with a store. If you've never been inside the M.Flynn in the South End you are seriously missing out on a shopping experience. And if you have been to the store, you'd better check it out again because it's better than ever--thanks to a collaboration with HUDSON, Boston's premiere home decor studio. M. Flynn's space on Waltham Street has nearly doubled in size and has the feeling of in intimate French boudoir. The new digs have been appropriately named Faire la Fete at M. Flynn.

What hasn't changed is the gorgeous jewelry created by the dynamic dou of sisters Megan and Moira Flynn. Their wedding jewelry is enough of a reason to say 'I do'. The sisters are generously giving one of our readers their Coin Pearl Necklace -- a value of $132. This silky strand of coin-shaped pearls will shimmer around the neck of any bride or maid of honor. In fact, it would look great on me (hint, hint)!

HOW TO WIN: Leave a comment detailing your most sentimental piece of jewelry. Contest details: comments must be posted by Wednesday July 28th midnight EST. Winner must be Boston based and available to pick up at M. FLYNN studios.

Allison says:

My nana gave me my great grandmother's engagement ring - I never got the change to meet her, but it is so great I have a little piece of her with me. Sometimes, I wear it on my hand, sometimes, around a necklace. But, a little piece of my family is always with me!

(07.23.10 @ 08:58 AM)
Elizabeth Dunderdale says:

My most sentimental piece of jewelry isn't actually my own. My mother, grandmother and I share a very special bond. We wanted to create something together for my daughter to cherish long after we're gone. For every major event in my daughter's life, we buy her a pearl. I bought the first in the weeks following her birth. My grandmother purchased one when we she was baptized. My mother bought one at her first birthday, and I recently bought one for her second birthday.

We hope she will grow to appreciate the necklace and all the love and strength that went into creating it.

(07.23.10 @ 09:22 AM)
Lauren says:

My engagement ring holds the most meaning to me because it has the diamond that my dad proposed to my mom with. Since my dad passed away a few years ago, it really meant a lot that my fiancee included the diamond in my ring.

(07.23.10 @ 09:26 AM)
Jade says:

a leaf ring that my mom gave me for christmas, it has "live simply" written on the inside and I think it's a great moto to live by.

(07.23.10 @ 09:29 AM)
Kerry says:

I have a large ceylon sapphire ring that was given to me by my grandmother on my 16th birthday. My grandfather was a American businessman in the Phillipines when the Japanese invaded the Philippines in 1942. He had purchased the raw stone during his travels and had it on his person when he was captured and interred. He spent 38 months in a Japanese prison camp and hid the stone (which would be considered contraband) from his captors, moving it daily while he struggled to survive. He met my grandmother upon his return to the US when he was released, and had the stone cut and set into a lovely gold ring with a leaf pattern that he designed himself, and proposed to her with it 12 weeks after they met. They were married 50 years. I always coveted that ring, and she chose me of her 7 granddaughters to pass it to the next generation.

(07.23.10 @ 09:43 AM)
Super Burbs says:

My engagement ring is by far my most sentimental piece of jewelry. I still find myself looking down at it in awe - it's amazing how one ring can change your entire life. I love that.

(07.23.10 @ 10:19 AM)

A white pearl necklace given to me by my mother

(07.23.10 @ 10:44 AM)
Nicole says:

I am lucky enough to have my grandparents' engagement ring. They've been married over 60 years and are the exact kind of inspirational marriage of balance, respect, and love I hope to have someday. When I wear it, I'm reminded of the love present in both my past and future.

The most sentimental piece of jewelry I own is an emerald ring from my grandmother. When she passed, it was the only piece she left to someone specific - and my older sister & I share "custody" for special occasions.

Kristen says:

Kerry's story is amazing! Wow!

My most sentimental piece of jewelry is a string of pearls that my godmother gave me when I was a flower girl in her wedding. I'm going to wrap them around my wrist as a bracelet for my own wedding.

Celia says:

Wow, I second what Kristen said about Kerry's story. Wow.
My most prized piece of jewelery is a necklace I've had since I was 9. I visited China for the first time in my life at the age of 9. During my visit, one of my aunties gave me a jade pendant. It is in the shape of a turtle, but looks like an apple or a heart depending on how it's turned. My parents purchased a gold chain to go with the necklace on the same trip. I wore that necklace every day, for the 10 years, until the dainty clasp almost broke. 14 years after the our first trip, we took our second family trip to China. I took the necklace back with me and had a jewlery fix the clasp. It is good as new, but resides in a box. I hope to pass it to my future children.

(07.23.10 @ 12:54 PM)
Melissa says:

My most prized piece of jewelry that I wear every day is a greenstone necklace from New Zealand, given to me by one of my best friends in the whole world while we were living there together. The stone is like jade, and according to Maori traditions, greenstone can only be given away. It can not be bought for yourself. It is a symbol of healing and protection, and it's said that the person who gives the greenstone also gives away a piece of his or her soul to watch over the recipient.

(07.23.10 @ 01:25 PM)
Lauren says:

it's very hard to choose my most treasured piece of jewelry - but it would have to be a silver chain with two charms - one a tree of life by a maine designer, a charm which I've had since before college and one I've also shared and gifted to several of my best girlfriends. the second charm is a beautiful piece of Chiapian Amber that I bought when I was visiting Mexico in college - I think they look lovely and "earthy" together, and they help me remember so many wonderful memories! about Maine (home)! about my besties! about my experiences abroad - which were at times, unreal!

(07.24.10 @ 07:47 PM)
Amie says:

I have an off-white pearl necklace that was my grandmother's, that nicely pairs with a set of pearl earrings given to me by my future mother-in-law.

i also wear a garnet ring that was my aunt's.

(07.25.10 @ 09:47 AM)
Shannon says:

My most sentimental piece of jewelry is a locket that my grandmother gave me. It was passed down to her by her grandmother and now to me when I was 13. It's a gold, circular locket with a flower design etched into it, hanging on a gold rope chain. I've never seen anything like it and always get comments on it when I wear it.

(07.26.10 @ 09:54 AM)
Sandy says:

That's beautiful! Love reading all of these stories. My most sentimental piece of jewelry is my engagement ring - a three-stone setting that includes both my mother's engagement diamond as well as her mother (my grandmother)'s, as well as a third of my own. Both my mom and grandmother have passed away in recent years, and knowing I have a piece of each of them with me at all times makes me smile each time I look down at my hand. I look forward to passing this heirloom down to a future daughter someday, a physical representation of three generations' worth of love and happy marriages.

(07.26.10 @ 10:33 AM)
Kerri M. says:

My most sentimental piece of jewelry is my nana's diamond ring. She lived with us when I was growing up and since she passed away it helps me to feel like a part of her is always with me when I wear it.

Today's gorgeous bride and groom met on vacation in Myrtle Beach and seemed to hit it off right away. "He was very polite and had manners... shocking," our bride tells us. "And when we took a walk one night, we shared his ipod and listened to Andrea Bocelli... I knew he was different!" And the unique romance didn't end there!

Some years later, the couple got engaged. And what a enchanting engagement it was! The couple vacationed in Disney that week with Lauren's 6 year old daughter. Our charming groom, Heath, arranged to have Lauren's daughter meet Cinderella. After that encounter, a dream-like moment any little girl will forever remember, Heath created another unforgettable evening by proposing to his now-wife, atop Cinderella's castle during a romantic dinner. Our beautiful bride said yes, and other diners applauded in excitement and minutes later, fireworks exploded in the sky!

Our Real Wedding couple married less than a year later in a small ceremony in Virginia surrounded by friends and family. And when it came to their wedding photos, Lauren and Heath kept it simple, sweet, and special. Unlike, traditional bridal portraits done before the wedding of only the bride, this East Coast couple decided to have an "After the Date" photo shoot where the two enjoyed some alone time as husband and wife. Tyra Bleek Photography got some great timeless shots of our newlyweds that will always be treasured, just like the memories of their starry-eyed engagement and tender nuptials!

Hailing from families both rich in Armenian heritage, Ani Jerikian and Vicken Khatchadourian tied the knot on May 8th in a traditional ceremony that fully represented their vibrant culture. After the pair attended the same youth program in Armenia in 2002 their love continued to flourish, and staying true to their roots, Vicken proposed in a botanical garden near Ani's home and they ultimately wed at the groom's church growing up, the elegant St. Stephen's in Watertown.

Amidst 350 guests, the glowing bride styled a classic and sophisticated Paloma Blanca gown, complete with rouching and even pockets! She added her own fresh twists, by sporting a Celtics garter belt and a killer pair of chic high heels. Following the navy, silver and purple color scheme, the wedding party attire blended well with the gorgeous array of purple hues in the flower bouquets from A Whole Bunch. The romantic purple up-lighting at the reception at the Hilton Woburn, made for a dramatic back-drop for the festivities where the Armenian traditions continued to reign supreme. A donation to furnish a classroom in Nagorno Karabakh replaced favors, Vicken's cousins from California surprised the couple by performing a dance and their first song was a beautiful Armenian piece.

Enjoying a picture perfect ceremony and reception amongst their dearest family and friends was easy for the newlyweds. Their next challenge though? Learning to cohabitate with one another as the two have never even lived in the same state!

Amy Bailey and Allen Horhota were living in San Diego when he gave her the biggest surprise of her life. While traveling along the scenic Pacific Coast Highway to visit some family on a rainy day in California, the couple made a stop to enjoy the stunning views when the weather finally broke. While Amy was focusing on taking pictures of the cliffs and the ocean, Allen was kneeling down to propose! After Amy go over her initial shock and surprise, of course she said YES! and the planning began...

The couple was living on the West coast, but were both from the East coast. They decided on the date November 28, 2009 and took on the task of planning from across the country. Amy and Allen chose St. Bridget's Church in Abington, the Bride's hometown, for their ceremony. For the reception Amy says, "we were looking for something very New England." so they decided on The Red Lion Inn in Cohasset. With it's vaulted ceilings and elegant "barn" feel it is the quintessential New England wedding venue.

For a couple who got engaged on April Fool's Day - fake out proposal included - what could be better than a pre-wedding photo shoot of a ride on a whimsical carousel. The fabulously fun and effortlessly elegant wedding of Samantha Shih and Austin Wei at the Boston Harbor Hotel was a vision in grey, yellow, and pink. The bride stood out in her chic chiffon Reem Acra gown, and later changed into a beautiful custom qipao.

As for the men, they cut a perfect figure in custom suits and shirts from none other than Samantha's own company, 9tailors! As a designer with an impeccable eye for quality and style, she chose the harbor setting as a backdrop for tables and white birch and colored branches running down the center by Hiroko from Hanaya Floral Design in Cambridge.

"I wanted everything to be fluffy, textured, and organic," says Samantha. The incredible bouquets of peonies in pink and white certainly qualify, as do the men's custom white-checked shirts with grey gingham accents and groom's wedding date monogram on the edge of his shirt.

It wasn't easy for Chien-lung Lee to win over his sweetheart, Jane Yu. After attending the same church, and sharing mutual friends, it wasn't until one fateful Valentines Day that the pair finally became a couple, and was quickly engaged exactly one year later. Their lavish wedding reflected the pair's self proclaimed "nerdier" side where a reception at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, followed the ceremony at the Chinese Bible Church of Greater Boston in Lexington, where the two had initially crossed paths. Jane's non-traditional, yet elegant, dress by Paloma Blanca was a strapless, chapel-length silk gown in mocha, with alencon lace bodice, and a matching mocha trimmed veil and sash to match. They chose to forgo the typical harvesty fall wedding colors, and instead created mesmerizing bouquets and floral arrangements from Orchids N Blooms, using orange hydrangeas, mango and eggplant mini callas, terracotta roses and dark violet alstromeria. However, they did opt for an amazing cake by Konditor Meister, embellished with a fall leaf design. After 8 months of marriage, the couples love is still in full bloom.

Those earrings are BEAUTIFUL. They remind me of winter here in Boston - when all the trees are covered in ice and have a magical quality to them.

They are very soft and could complement any wedding hairstyle - I would love to wear them on my special day!

(06.25.10 @ 09:26 AM)
Sheryl Pace says:

The jewelry reminds me of vintage heirlooms my grandmother used to wear. I recognize these visuals in old photographs I have of her. Because I was very young when she passed away, I never had the opportunity to ever see or hold these pieces. It would be wonderful to be able to wear one of Heather Wang's pieces in memory of my grandmother.

(06.25.10 @ 10:18 AM)

STUNNING! These earrings remind me of rosebuds... tightly curled r petals, ready to open in gorgeous blooms!

(06.25.10 @ 11:05 AM)
Alexandra says:

I am going to leave a comment just to say how much I love Heather! She also makes insane, and I mean *insane* engagement/wedding rings. I have a couple pairs of her earrings and she designed a ring for me which is so incredible and I get compliments on it every day. These lace earrings are so beautiful, and I love how everything she does has a little natural element. Gorgeous!

(06.25.10 @ 11:25 AM)
Melissa says:

These earrings are fantastic, it is amazing how something that looks so delicate can make such a statement! These earrings resemble the spokes of a bicycle! My fiancé and I are avid bikers, and these earrings look like a bike in motion, something that catches your eye.

lisa Trachtman says:

These earrings remind me of a simpler time when dressing up and going out for tea with your "lady friends" was a treasured event. It's hard to believe that something so delicate is made of metal. The detail give them the illusion of weightlessness. In short, I love them and have to have them. Just noticed they are on sale.

they remind me of my wedding gown. It was head to toe lace and I looked liked a giant doily.....a hot, glamorous doily!!

(06.28.10 @ 09:27 AM)
Molly says:

There's a simplistic elegance reflected in lace that echoes true through today. There's something oh-so-Audrey; distinguished like Olivia de Halvilland; poised like Greta Garbo and saucy like Marilyn Monroe encapsulated in these delicate earrings. My best friend, an actress and acting coach, will be getting married within the next few months and aside from the silverscreen sirens of decades past, these earrings are so now, so Alexandra.

(06.28.10 @ 09:39 AM)
LeeLa says:

I love these earring too. They remind me of the roses that use to climb up the side of my Grandmother's garden shed. As a child, I used to love sitting underneath these climbing roses and pretend I was in my own secret garden. What a stunning piece, that is a reminder of my youth.

(06.28.10 @ 11:22 AM)

Caitlyn and Keith chose the rich palate of chocolate brown, cream and purple to accent their dream wedding. The dining tables were decorated with tall centerpieces created by floral designer Mac Cooper. "I didn't want anything typical, but nothing too modern," Caitlyn says.

Suzanne Lowell Lighting Design was hired to enhance the centerpieces, dance floor, and the band, The Boston Players. Caitlyn found a photo of a cake in a European wedding magazine and had Enchanted Wedding Cakes recreate it using different shades of purple.

And what better way to get from Newton to Boston than by Trolley? Joseph Limousine & Transportation ferried the wedding party through the rainy afternoon in a colorful trolley and made the traffic a little more bearable. MKD Photography use the wet weather to their advantage and captured some creative candid shots of the couple's dream wedding.

I need pampering because every one of my friends is getting married this summer, including me! Last weekend, I drove from DC to Pittsburgh to go to a shower in the morning, then flew off to Chicago to go to a bachelorette party that evening & stayed out till 5AM. Then I flew back to Pitt, and I spent the whole drive back to DC putting stamps and labels on my wedding invitations! (sitting in the passenger seat, of course!) So busy!

I've been working hard to make her feel special - I could use some down time! Last spring, my apartment burned down and I lost everything - furniture, photos, clothes, (including old bridemaids' dresses!) etc...and I finally feel like I've re-couped, and it's great to have a real event to look forward to start replacing pictures with happier memories.

I'm a ball of stress these days. I'm 42 days from the big day. We have most everything done, thank goodness. My fiance is in law school, so I've planned this wedding while we were living over 1200 miles apart. Wedding planning, travelling every other weekend, and working full time for a whole year is exhausting. So he is now home and trying to transfer to a better school less than 2 hours from our home. We will hear whether he is accepted 10 days before our wedding. To top everything, a tree in our backyard was hit by lighting last week during a major storm. Today, instead of doing picture and music planning we are chopping up a tree. I could definitely use these bath bombs and a message.

The modern bride not only wants to feel beautiful, but she wants to feel sexy and confident. I have heard from many brides that a great way to get that feeling is from a boudoir photo session before your big day.

Imagine getting all dolled up. Getting pampered with hair & make up. Dressing in classy lingerie that will make your future husband drool while posing for some gorgeous personalized photos in a comfortable setting. The right photographer will make your feel confident, sexy and empowered. Give your soon-to-be hubby a gift he will never forget. So why not jump in and take the risk... size 2 or size 12 you won't regret it!

The couple had an intimate ceremony and celebration at the Massachusetts Audubon Habitat in Belmont. "My dream wedding was tiny, just my parents, his parents, and our siblings," Kristina says. "We wanted a place where we could revisit whenever we wanted to."

Kristina found her wedding dress at Nordstorm's but had to pull some strings to get it. The only dress in her size in the entire country was in Hawaii. Thanks to helpful sales person, the chiffon dress arrived two days before the wedding. The pinks, purples and greens in her dress blended beautifully with the flower gardens and natural surrounding of Habitat.

While the couple had a DIY wedding, they left the important stuff to the professionals. Instead of a cake they ordered cupcakes from Kick Ass Cupcakes in somerville and hired photographer Holly Steen of Cakes and Kisses Photography. "Teddy and I both loved our little intimate ceremony," Kristina says. "Now we're planning a big reception in Los Angeles for our friends!"

Theodore Haile first met Kristina Russell during their Freshman Summer Program at UCLA. Teddy had heard that there was a girl in the dorm who had devised an interesting private study area in her room by hanging a sheet down from her bunk bed shielding her desk from view. "I thought it was a clever solution," Kristina says. "It drew a lot of attention!"

Over the next few months, the couple struck up a friendship as Kristina already had a boyfriend. After months of chatting online, study break coffee runs, night time walks, and lunches, Teddy finally won her over.

Twelve years and three baby boys later the couple celebrated Kristina's 30th birthday. "I could think of no better place for the proposal than a private evening with her closest friends and family," Teddy says. When he asked for her hand in marriage "the room erupted like when Kobe sinks a buzzer beater."

This couple's relationship started off hot and ended cool. They met over bowls of chili at a mutual friends' house. Two years later, while on a ski vacation in Lake Tahoe, the view wasn't the only thing to take Megan's breath away--Zach popped the question at the top of one of the ski runs.

Zach Johnson and Megan Kearney got married at Glen Magna Farms in Danvers. "The gardens were spectacular and the house was just the right feel for our personalities," Megan says. The wisteria was in full bloom for their May 2010 wedding, making the job of the wedding photographer, Brett Alison, that much easier. "We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful backdrop for our ceremony," Megan says. And dressed in her silk taffeta wedding gown from Daal's Bridal, the bride was picture perfect.

Luke and Megan wanted a hand in everything on their wedding day. Kristen Clark, the couple's floral designer, took Megan to the Boston Floral Market to choose the flowers for the bouquets and centerpieces. Guests danced to the music of DJ Chris Rush and the Ryan Fardy Band under hanging paper lanterns that Luke and Megan strung above the dance floor. "By doing many of the things on our own, it made the day much more special and helped us stay on budget," Megan says.

The couple stayed local when it came to their dinner menu. Dinner was handled by Plymouth Bay Catering and their gorgeous wedding cake, topped with tiny Adirondack chairs, was made by Konidtor Meister. They even hired an old-fashion photo booth from Boston Photo Booth Rental for the reception.

"We still have friends telling us how much fun our wedding was -- which is ultimately what we wanted," Megan says.

It took a bit of convincing for Megan McBride to believe Luke Anderson was proposing to her. The couple was geocaching in a preserve area when Luke diverted from the GPS reading. Megan found him, down on one knee, trying to propose while Megan tried to get him back on the trail. Luckily Luke persevered and the couple began planning their August 2009 wedding.

The couple's love for the beach and Luke's upbringing in the Dominican Republic fueled their nautical themed wedding. They held their ceremony and reception at the Jones River Trading Company in Kingston. "The reception area is unlike any other venue in the area," Megan says. "The open room and antique appeal felt comfortable and inviting. We didn't even look anywhere else." The couple hired Rachel Kate Photography to capture their special day in print.

Lighting is like art; both use colors and techniques to create a magical backdrop that can tell a story and create desired ambience.

To transform the energy of a room throughout the evening, lighting that changes colors is key. An elegant palette of reds and bright golds gives energy to the room, while a serene "in-between-courses" palette of blues and plums provides a soothing, comfortable atmosphere.

The use of honey and amber tones are flattering, while warm colors highlight decor beautifully. Pink can create an atmosphere of warmth and comfort. To accentuate centerpieces and food displays one may use pink spotting to tightly focus light and make decorative touches shine. A "Gobo" light can be employed to wash the walls with a favorite poem logo or interesting pattern.

However lighting is used, it is an essential part of decor and offers the most value when transforming a space.

As the summer wedding season rapidly approaches Bakers Best Catering of Boston shares 6 tips to make your wedding memorable, and it all starts with the food.

Edible Centerpieces:

For brides looking to stretch their dollar to meet both catering and decorating needs, family-style edible centerpieces do just the trick. Some ideas include: peasant-style tapas and local artisan cheese displays.

Small Plates and Appetizers:

Cocktail receptions are becoming increasingly popular as an alternative to the more expensive sit-down plated dinners. In addition to a smaller catering tab, which is always appreciated in this economical climate, these small plates-driven receptions keep guests on their feet, mingling and dancing.

Eco-Friendly Menus:

Whether it's couples asking the caterer to include produce from their own home garden or farm or requesting sustainable proteins, weddings have officially gone GREEN!

Themed Menus:

No, we're not talking about dying the rice the perfect shade of lavender to match the bridesmaids' shade of lavender to match their menus to their wedding location: tea sandwiches for garden wedding; clambakes for a beach wedding; a raw bar at a boathouse wedding.

Culture Clash Menus:

Brides and grooms are now using food to tell the story of their different ethnic backgrounds. The marriage theme is often tied into the menu with a blending of different traditional foods to create a new type of cuisine.

Hometown Touches:

For the Chicago couple tying the knot on Nantucket, this means a traditional Chicago-style hot dog cart with all the fixings. Also seen: Philly cheese steaks, New England clambakes, New Orleans po'boys, Kansas BBQ.

Kent moved to Boston to be with Liz and they started planning their September 2009 wedding. "Finding a place that would accommodate a lot of out-of-towners within a respectable budget was difficult," Liz says. They decided on The Wayside Inn, a mere 9 miles from their home.

Liz went classic with her gorgeous wedding dress from Priscilla of Boston. Bleached peacock feathers adorned her shoes, birdcage veil, cake, and bouquet designed by The Frugal Flower. Of course wedding photographer Rachel Buckley focused on every detail.

In homage to Liz's Cuban heritage, the couple hired a cigar roller from the Boston Cigar Factory to wow guests at the reception. "They got rave reviews," Liz says. "Such a hit!"

But the couple's favorite memory wasn't the cigars-- it was was walking down the aisle as husband and wife. "Once we were outside the Martha Mary Chapel by ourselves we took a deep breath and kissed," Liz says. "It was long, heartfelt, and something I will always remember."
