Some say they’re perfect, the others don’t agree. The truth is: Vietnamese women are different, and they have a lot of interesting traits and features you need to be aware of.

• They are very calm and they don’t always show their true feelings. Just like any other Asian country, Vietnam has a collectivist society where it’s not considered polite to show the real emotions and feelings. On the one hand, it may be a good thing because your Vietnamese bride will most likely not get involved in arguments or be toxic with you. 
• On the other hand, the Taoist concept of community harmony (which is one of the core values here) makes them keep a lot of things that bother them inside. They often “bottle up” their emotions, and this is surely not the best thing for mental health in the long term.
• They are very family-centered and they are mostly focused on a serious relationship. This is especially true when we’re talking about the ladies in their 30s (most women on mail bride websites fall into this age group).
• They are generally more conservative in a relationship which means they see nothing with traditional gender roles in a family. For them, for example, the #1 role of a wife in a family is to maintain the household, to raise the children, and to make sure her husband is happy.
• This, on the other hand, leads to certain differences in how they see the roles and interactions within the family. Thus, they tend to become stay-at-home wives, they usually have a very disciplined parenting style, etc.

Of course, there are some tips like “be confident” or “look your best” or, say, “learn their language”—these tips will work well for most Asian women and Vietnamese girls aren’t an exception.

But you need something more specific, right?

• Remember that their dating culture is different. For example, PDA is a no-no in this country—even holding hands is not ok for them and you should avoid doing it in order to not make your girlfriend feel uncomfortable.
• Be romantic, be a gentleman, be respectful. The latter is especially important because the lack of respectful treatment is one of the most common reasons why these ladies become mail order brides! 
• Like most Asian girls, Vietnamese brides are interested in a serious relationship. To impress them, you’ll have to show that you’re looking for a wife and that you’re ready for a family—and what’s more, you’ll also have to make her parents believe that you have serious intentions. Vietnamese mail order bride websites

It’s that 1 option we mentioned earlier—the one that is good for finding a long-term partner, the affordable one, and the most effective one. We’re talking about mail order bride (MOB) platforms like SakuraDate: they are pretty similar to dating sites, but the female members there are much more interested in a serious relationship.

But that’s not the only advantage of this method. And it’s not only about advantages, actually.

Thousands of real Vietnamese women for marriage. Other Asian countries are usually covered, as well, so you can also meet thousands of Japanese, Korean, and Chinese women on these sites.	These sites are not free to use.
The platforms are affordable. In most cases, they cost around $150-$250 per month.	Finding a legit dating app might be challenging.
The response rate is usually very high on these sites, as well as the quality of profiles—most female profiles on legit Asian dating apps (e.g. SakuraDate) are verified and very detailed.

Offline dating

It’s simple, it’s very popular, and it’s a good choice for you—but only if you are interested in a casual relationship. As for anything more serious, well… Let’s talk about the pros and cons of this method.

It’s really fun—Vietnam is one of those countries you will fully enjoy even if you won’t find a wife there.	It’s expensive. You’ll need to pay at least $1,700 for a 1-week trip to Vietnam.
Local women are very open-minded and interested in meeting foreigners (but not for a serious relationship)	Finding a partner for a serious relationship is extremely unlikely if you go offline. Even though they are not as popular as they were 50 years ago, they still exist—and it’s still possible to find a bride in such an agency. Of course, today’s agencies look pretty much like dating websites with their catalogs being transferred to the Internet, but there are some differences: for example, they are more expensive, they usually have a lot of extra features (like bride tours), and they are typically not as popular as those websites.

The chances of finding a real bride are quite high here.	These agencies are very expensive. A 1-week dating/bride tour will cost you from $4,000 to $5,000.
It’s very simple, you just choose several girls, send them a few messages, and pay for the dating tour.	The dating pool is much smaller than that offered by mail order bride websites

Getting a Vietnamese mail order bride: How much does it cost? 

You won’t “buy” a Vietnam girl for marriage but you’ll need to pay anyway. Online dating, a trip to her country, a wedding, a K-1 visa—there’s a lot of things you will probably need to pay for. 

Let’s see how much it costs.

First, a dating site. Let’s take SakuraDate as an example, it’s a popular, legit dating app with a very common credit-based system. Such a system means you buy credits and exchange them for messaging/extra features later. 

• There are 6 credit packages available. If you buy the largest one, you’ll only pay $0.2 per 1 credit. 
• Sending 1 email costs 20 credits ($4), live chat costs 2 credits per minute ($0.4). 
• The average male user spends around 500-600 minutes per month chatting with women ($200-$240).

Now, a 1-week (at least) trip to Vietnam. 

• Tickets — $900 
• Hotel, food, transportation — $70 per day, $500 for 1 week 
• Dates, gifts — $300
• Total — $1,700

What’s then? A wedding, of course. In Vietnam, the average wedding cost is around $11,000 but you can both save money and spend around $5,000 and have a really fancy party which would cost you $25,000. The average wedding cost in the US is higher—around $35,000. 

And you’ll also need to pay for a K-1 visa. It costs $2,530 (that’s the total cost of a K-1 visa and a green card for your bride).

So the total cost is around $4,500 or even less if you are not going to have a wedding party. With a wedding, the cost might increase to $15,000 or even higher, especially if you’re going to have a luxury wedding party in the United States.

What it’s like to be married to a Vietnamese bride 

We already mentioned some of the character traits of these women, but that’s certainly not all you need to know. Want to know more about them?

• Vietnamese ladies are obviously very family-oriented. Having a wife from this country means that she’ll always protect her family, make sure every family member is happy, and make family the #1 priority in her life. 
• They are polite, calm, and even (a bit) obedient. One of the main cultural concepts in Vietnam is translated as “3 obediences, 4 virtues” and shapes the role of a woman around the importance of being obedient to the husband. As for those virtues, they’re morality, good manners, diligence, and “proper speech”.
• They are perfect wives. They are great at cooking, they’re hard-working, and they are very good when it comes to household chores. And they’re also 100% loyal to their men!
• Your Vietnamese wife will most likely be modest, polite, down to earth, and gentle. They are not loud and they are definitely not too demanding in a relationship. 

Why do Vietnamese girls look for foreign husbands? 

It’s one of the top mail bride countries in the world and it’s been so for a while. Why? What makes these women search for a foreign partner? Why would an educated and intelligent Vietnamese girl for marriage change her life drastically and marry a man from the West?

• For most women, it’s about being treated better. They know that Western men treat their women with respect and don’t have the machismo culture.
• Some of them just love Western culture. A lot of Vietnamese women have been dreaming about moving to the US for decades.
• They think that the US is a better place for their children. Stereotypes about Vietnamese brides

There are lots of stereotypes you’ve probably heard before. Obviously, most of them are not true—here are the top 4 examples. 

“They are too shy” or “They are too aggressive”

Yes, somehow, both of these stereotypes are pretty popular—the first one is mostly related to that classic image of a “perfect Asian bride” while the second myth probably has something to do with, you know, historical context. 

But neither is 100% true. Some of them might be aggressive and fierce but it’s a highly unlikely behavior for people from Vietnam (especially for their women). On the other hand, being calm and polite is very common here, but it doesn’t mean that these women are too shy or passive.

“They are bar girls and are only interested in casual dating”

Bar girls spend nights in bars. If you don’t want to waste time dating someone like that, you just ignore such places. “They are gold-diggers”

That’s what some people think about Asian brides no matter the country they come from. Chinese women, Thai brides, Vietnamese ladies—for some men, all of them are just gold diggers who only need their money.

“They hate Americans”
