At BKB, we love being involved in all aspects of your wedding – not just photography! Our clients have come to rely on us for a variety of wedding issues that can come up. One particular question that we hear a lot is ‘how long should a wedding ceremony be?’ If you are getting married in a church or temple, the answer to that question is probably pre-determined for you since religious wedding ceremonies typically follow a ritual and oftentimes end up being about an hour or so.
If you are not getting married in a place of worship, we suggest that you have your ceremony be 30-40 minutes in length. If fact, if you speak with Boston area Justices of the Peace or other ministers, you will probably hear the same from them. This allows time for a couple of readings and some ceremony music to be performed, as well as the traditional exchanging of vows, etc.
From a wedding photography and videography standpoint, a ceremony of that length allows us to capture the ceremony without being rushed. We are able to move around the ceremony and capture you, your guests and all the beautiful ceremony details from different angles.
And keeping your ceremony just an hour will keep your guests happy too! It can be difficult for guests to sit longer than an hour, oftentimes not being able to hear the ceremony, see the couple, or in those longer summer days, sitting in heat in an outdoor wedding. 30-40 minutes is the
perfect length of time for everyone involved!
